Would you buy packaged Mojito without the rum?

“I’m the bartender tonight!”
Most of us only think that we can do good cocktails. I tried my hand at something as simple as a martini, and messed up. That’s probably why I love my sour apple martini at Lagerbay and don’t mind paying the extra buck. The perfect balance of strong, but not too strong and sweet, but not too sweet is not the easiest to achieve.

That said, I’m not sure I’d buy into pre-mixed canned drinks that save you the trouble of mixing drinks at home. Lounge Myx is a brand that does mojito, cosmopolitan, caipirinha, margarita and sex on the beach in cans, priced at Rs 450 for a pack of 6 cans. Don’t jump yet, these drinks are without alcohol. You’re supposed to add 30 ml of alcohol and ice to complete the drink. Lounge Myx’s real offering therefore, is quick, hassle-free drinks which hopefully taste as good as the freshly made ones.
Most of our ‘freshly made’ cocktails too, use preserved syrups and canned juices. But a mojito for me is incomplete without that fresh wedge of lime and sprig of mint. A canned mojito will not achieve that. I might just try Lounge Myx’s version as a nice new ‘mixer’ for my drinks. Watch this space for my feedback.

The Goblet of Fire

Who doesn’t love a cocktail with a little flair in the presentation? Well, The Goblet of Fire certainly has it. This one was created for the adults who enjoy the Harry Potter series and is designed to celebrate the last of the movies, namely Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part 2.
Aside from its famous inspiration, this really is a tasty and fun cocktail. It is made of two simple liqueurs, a touch of cream and some ovenproof rum which is key to the flame. As with all brushes with fire and cocktails, take caution: extinguish the flame properly and don’t allow the guy who’s had one too many near the lit glass. Be careful and enjoy.
